About the firm

Calyx is owned by Alana Smith, a social equity advocate who is purpose driven to improve outcomes for underrepresented households through the medium of housing development and preservation. 

In the past 20 years of her professional experience in this field, she has been directly involved in the creation and preservation of thousands of homes for under-resourced households using a combination of creative capital solutions and innovations in building science technologies.

Alana holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin, MS in Urban Policy from The New School and BA in Public Policy from SUNY Oswego. She is published in peer reviewed academic journals and has presented her research at various international conferences and symposiums.
